Personal cover

Protecting the people who depend on you

Your ability to earn an income is probably your most valuable asset, and the people around you rely on it. Personal insurance makes sure that if your health changes, your family's finances don't have to change with it: the mortgage still gets paid, the bills are covered, and you have room to focus on recovery.

We specialise in lump-sum covers, disability and private medical insurance. Because we're 100% independent, we compare New Zealand's leading insurers and recommend what genuinely fits your situation, not what pays the best commission.

What's included

The cover we specialise in

Most people need a combination of these. We'll help you work out the right mix, and the right amount, for your situation.

Life Cover

A lump sum paid to your family if you die, so the mortgage, debts and day-to-day living are taken care of when they can least afford a financial shock.

Trauma / Critical Illness

A lump sum on diagnosis of a serious condition like cancer, a heart attack or a stroke, giving you the freedom to focus on getting well rather than on money.

Income Protection & Mortgage Cover

Replaces a portion of your income, or covers your mortgage repayments, if illness or injury stops you working, so the household keeps running.

Private Health Insurance

Faster access to specialists, surgery and treatment without joining a public waiting list, so a diagnosis doesn't mean months of waiting and worry.

Personal insurance is worth a conversation if you…

  • Have a mortgage or other debt you'd want cleared.
  • Have a partner or children who rely on your income.
  • Are self-employed, or your household leans on a single income.
  • Want faster access to treatment than the public system can offer.
  • Have had a health change and worry the right cover is now out of reach.

Personal insurance FAQs

Do I still need personal insurance if I have ACC?

ACC only covers accidents, not illness. Most serious claims (cancer, heart conditions, strokes, mental health) come from illness, and ACC does nothing there. Personal insurance fills that gap, so you're protected however your health changes, not just if you're injured.

What's the difference between life, trauma and income protection?

Life cover pays a lump sum to your family if you die. Trauma (or critical illness) cover pays a lump sum on diagnosis of a serious condition while you're still here. Income protection replaces part of your income if illness or injury stops you working. Most people need a mix; we help you work out the right balance.

How much cover do I actually need?

It depends on your debt, your income, who relies on you, and what you want to protect. There's no one-size-fits-all number; the point of advice is to size each cover to your real situation rather than guess, so you're neither under-insured nor paying for cover you don't need.

Why use an independent broker instead of going direct to an insurer?

An insurer can only offer you their own products. As an independent broker we compare New Zealand's leading insurers and recommend what genuinely fits you, and we're paid to act in your interest, not to push one company's shelf. The advice, structure and claims support all come at no extra cost to you.
